With great attention to detail and colorful creativity, the book takes us by the hand on the way to a climate-friendly diet. Natalie tells us what makes her recipes so special and how fun and enjoyment are at the heart of vegan cooking. Of course, her favorite summer recipe is not to be missed.
Natalie, how challenging are your recipes and what is so special about them?
My recipes are easy to make and really fun to prepare. The ingredient lists are straightforward and don't contain any exotic ingredients. You should only have a few basic vegan ingredients such as yeast flakes, sulphur salt and soy sauce at home.
As a special feature, I have calculated the CO2e emissions for each recipe and compared them with an animal-based dish. This shows at a glance that the vegan version can save up to 60% of climate-damaging greenhouse gases.
In this way, my book aims to show how easy it is to reconcile cooking and eating with an environmentally friendly cooking style.
Vegan for the Climate is much more than just a cookbook.
What is the best way to get started with vegan cuisine?
The best way is to approach the matter without fear and perfectionism and take a step-by-step approach to a plant-based diet. Nobody becomes vegan overnight. That's why I recommend approaching a plant-based lifestyle at your own pace. Every little change makes a difference and cooking and baking should be fun!
I have summarized my tips for an easy and smooth start to a climate-friendly diet in a chapter entitled "Just get started". To avoid getting overwhelmed in the supermarket, I show you how to keep track of the vegan product range. Because knowledge and practice are half the battle here. Once you know what the climate-friendly staple foods are, they will find their way into your shopping cart all by themselves after a little practice.
In my book, I have created 4 recipes for each month. I present regional and seasonal fruit and vegetables in a new look. So you can feast your way through the year. If you're lacking motivation, you can arrange a weekly cooking date with your favorite people and taste your way through the monthly chapters in my book.
Which of the nut recipes from your cookbook do you recommend for summer?
I didn't have to think twice! Because if it's up to me, freshly baked bread is a must at a barbecue party in summer. My brightly colored beet and walnut bread is an absolute highlight, both visually and in terms of taste. The cooked beet in the bread provides a hint of sweetness that contrasts perfectly with the crunch of the aromatic walnuts. And whether on its own or with a plant-based horseradish quark spread - the bread tastes fantastic! There's every reason to give it a try, isn't there? :)
